Dr. Andrew Karhan, a project director at San Diego State University’s Interwork Institute (SDSU), is a seasoned professional with nearly 30 years of experience in vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, mental health, developmental disabilities, and transition. His leadership and research expertise are evident in his current roles as Project Director of the Center for Advancing Policy on Employment for Youth and the New York Employment Transition Model Demonstration grants, funded by the U.S. Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) for SDSU and other state projects that utilize various quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research designs. Dr. Karhan has previously served as principal investigator and project director for over a dozen research projects, including New York State’s Promoting the Readiness of Minors in Supplemental Security Income (PROMISE), funded through the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services, as well as several Disability Innovation Fund initiatives supported by the Rehabilitation Services Administration. He has effectively administered employment service programs for individuals with disabilities in Pennsylvania and New York, and he has provided technical assistance in implementing best practices in employment, youth, and transition services nationwide.
