**** Important Changes will be coming in late September to the CWDP Requirements and Application Process. More details will be coming soon****
Anyone considering applying for the CWDP must begin by taking the following steps:
Step I - Review the requirements listed below for attaining your CWDP certification.
Note: You must meet EACH of the six requirements to be certified.
1. A Combination of Education and Work Experience
Applicants must have a set number of months of full-time (at least 30 hours per week) work experience as a workforce development professional. The requirements for the number of months of full-time work are as follows:
|Graduate Degree||12 months of full-time experience|
|Bachelor's Degree||24 months of full-time experience|
|Associate's Degree||48 months of full-time experience|
|High School Diploma or GED||72 months of full-time experience|
Documentation of attained educational level must be submitted before the application will be considered complete. Copies of transcripts, diplomas, or letters from school officials (not instructors) on school letterhead are acceptable.
2. Recent Work Experience
In addition to the overall, full-time experience, applicants must have been working as a workforce development professional in 12 out of the last 24 months before applying. If the full-time work experience documented for the combined education and work experience requirements covers 12 out of the last 24 months, this requirement is met. If not, applicants can use part-time work to meet the recent work experience requirement.
3. Competency in Nine Areas ***NOTICE: BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 23, 2020 YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO APPLY BY SELF-ATTESTATION. IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON YOUR SELF-ATTESTATION APPLICATION YOU WILL HAVE UNTIL DEC. 31, 2020 TO SUBMIT ***
Applicants must demonstrate, by self attestation, having received education and training in nine competency areas OR complete one of these approved training courses.

If you are applying by self attestation of how you obtained competency knowledge and giving examples of how you use competency knowledge we strongly urge you to:
A. Complete a CWDP Self-Assessment.
The self-assessment is a tool for you to determine how your experience aligns with the CWDP credential criteria. It is designed to help you understand what skills you might want to brush up on prior to pursuing the credential. Click HERE to access the Self-Assessment.
B. Watch the"Tips and Strategies for Applying for the CWDP" Webinar.
This Webinar provides hints and practical advice for completing your application. Individuals who participate in this Webinar have a higher success rate with their application than those who do not. A recorded version of the webinar is available below.
Applicants must provide references who attest to the applicant’s skills in the nine competency areas, as well as to the ethical behavior of the applicant. At least one reference must be a supervisor. If the applicant has no immediate supervisor, a board member or a customer should complete one of the reference forms.
5. Professional Affiliation with a Workforce Association
If the applicant is not a member of NAWDP they must be an individual member (as opposed to an organizational member) of a workforce development professional association whose purpose is the skills development of its members.
6. Adherence to a Code of Professional Ethics
Applicants must sign and date a statement attesting that they agree to adhere to the NAWDP Code of Professional Ethics and Practices.
NOTE: The webinar says to mail the application, references and employment verification forms but all of this is done electronically now. Instructions and forms are found under Begin Your CWDP Application.
You may submit your CWDP application and any required supporting documentation for the CWDP at any time during the month. All applications received in any given month will begin the review process on the first day of the following month. All supporting documents for the application, including payment for membership (if applicable) and certification application fees, must be received before the application will continue in the review process.
The review process typically takes an average of 45 days if all documents are submitted and fees paid. Applicants will be notified via email as soon as reasonably practicable after a decision has been made. All applications start the review cycle in the order they are submitted and any request to expedite an application will be denied. Please do not inquire about the status of your application until the 45 day review period has passed for your review cycle. Email additional questions to: email@example.com.
