CWDL Certification

The National Association of Workforce Development Professionals® (NAWDP) developed the Certified Workforce Development Leader (CWDL) certification to prepare experienced professionals to lead with clarity, confidence, and impact across workforce development systems. The CWDL recognizes leaders who possess the skills, knowledge, and practical insight needed to guide teams, influence strategy, and drive meaningful outcomes for jobseekers, employers, and communities.

The CWDL may be earned through participation in the NAWDP Leadership Academy, offered in cooperation with the University of Georgia and its J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development. Through this immersive learning experience, participants strengthen their leadership capacity, expand their strategic perspective, and apply innovative approaches to real-world workforce challenges.

The CWDL is grounded in three core leadership competencies that are essential for effective leadership in today’s workforce development environment:

  1. Self-Understanding and Awareness
  2. Building Positive and Effective Relationships
  3. Transforming Thoughts and Visions Into Action
