Director of Strategic Initiatives, Michigan Works! Association
Bio:
I am a workforce development leader with 18+ years of experience advancing demand-driven systems. As Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Michigan Works! Association, I support professional development, certification programs, & statewide collaboration. Known for innovative thinking and collaborative leadership, I bring Michigan’s practical perspective to national conversations, advocating for a strong, and an adaptive workforce system.
What is your vision for the workforce development profession?
Workforce development exists in a constantly evolving environment that demands adaptability, innovation, and collaboration. My vision is a streamlined, equitable system that empowers career seekers through upskilling while meeting businesses’ needs for skilled talent. By strengthening partnerships, supporting workforce professionals, and embracing inclusivity, we can build a resilient workforce ecosystem that strengthens individuals, businesses, and communities for long-term success.
Do you have a particular interest area or passion in workforce development?
I am passionate about advancing innovative solutions while safeguarding the workforce system’s ability to adapt in an ever-changing environment. I value sharing best practices and blending proven experience with fresh ideas to create meaningful opportunities for success. Guided by the mindset of “What if we…,” I embrace curiosity, encourage thoughtful experimentation, learn from outcomes, and empower others to innovate, grow, and lead positive change within the workforce system.
Why do you want to serve on the Board?
Serving on the board offers a meaningful opportunity to help shape workforce development at the national level. Michigan brings a strong, practical, and innovative perspective to workforce solutions, and I am eager to contribute that voice. By strengthening connections with other regions and encouraging collaboration and shared learning, I hope to help advance a more unified, responsive workforce system that drives lasting, nationwide impact.
What do you think is the biggest challege facing the profession today and how can NAWDP address that challenge?
One of the greatest challenges facing workforce development today is effectively telling our story and clearly demonstrating the system’s impact. Communicating our value is critical to securing sustainable funding and maintaining high-quality services. As WIOA reauthorization approaches, we have a timely opportunity to elevate the voice of the workforce system, advocate for its role, and ensure it remains a vital resource for individuals, businesses, and communities nationwide.
