You don’t get a second chance to make a good first impression. Whether you’re writing to your boss or your subordinate, a customer or a contractor, as soon as you click send, your written word has been sent on a one way journey, with no return ticket.  It is important to write in a way to get results and to position yourself as the professional that you really are.  You want your reader to understand very quickly exactly what to do with the information you are sending.

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll review grammar that you learned many years ago and revisit appropriate sentence structure in a business email or document.  When you type a document or email and you misspell a word, your reader wonders whether you really didn’t know how to spell it or if you were just careless and didn’t catch it.  How do you feel when you read an email and the sender uses the wrong form of it’s/its or their/there/they’re or even affect/effect?  I don’t know about you, but I can’t sleep after seeing a word choice mistake because I’m wondering why that person made that public mistake.  Either way, you have put yourself and your organization at a disadvantage.

Next, we’ll focus on punctuation because punctuation helps the reader navigate your message   It is unprofessional and detracts from the great work that you do.  Last, this workshop will send you away with business email etiquette, proofreading tips and some common business document formats.  Writing well is a necessity in life and the key to effectively communicate at work.  So, don’t be surprised if your case notes start getting noticed and you get more done at work.  When you say what you want to say and the reader knows what to do, so much time is eliminated and so many mistakes are avoided.
